Active Classroom

  • To provide dynabands and training to staff so that they can deliver inhouse activity sessions in the classroom (seated and standing exercises with minimal room)

Target audience

  • Upskill teachers to deliver (all appropriate)
  • All children – all ages appropriate for all

Method of delivery

  • Training of teachers – all together (1 hour workshop)
  • Teachers to deliver the Dynaband sessions at times in their daily log that suits the year group

Intended outcomes

  • To increase the activity levels of children without getting out of breath
  • To increase gentle strength work – in a fun way
  • To work as a team / group

Summary of Intervention/Programme

  • The teachers will be upskilled to deliver safe exercises with a dynaband for all classes. This can be used as a tool to integrate children back into their classroom following a break.  The exercises will all be in a booklet for the teachers to follow and all pupils can have their own band that they look after.

Costs

  • £50 for 1 hour of training
  • (travel costs if required for the instructor to attend the school)
  • £5 per dynaband that is needed for the school.

Active Families

Target audience

Families in the school with children aged between 5-15 years

 Method of delivery

Outreach, Inclusive, interactive, schools, communities

Intended outcomes

To educate families understand the benefits of being active and showing them ways they can be active together at minimum cost for them

Summary of Intervention/Programme

The active families programme is designed to help families with low income living in the Peterborough area to become more aware on how active they and how active they need to be to live a healthy lifestyle. We aim to help educate the families on how to be active and show them how it can improve their health and also bring families closer together through sport.

Intervention/ Programme

Consultation on Inclusive PE Lessons

Target audience

Teachers and TAs working with children with SEND, children with SEND and their class mates

Method of delivery

School would complete an initial self-assessment of their PE lessons in regards to:

  • The teachers/TAs level of experience in sports delivery and working with children with SEND.
  • The level of inclusion and enjoyment of the children with SEND and the impact it has on the class as a whole
  • The aims and objectives for the PE lessons and the children with SEND
  • The willingness to alter the curriculum to deliver quality PE lessons that include all the children

Visit 1 – observation of PE lesson and getting to know the children, staff and how they all interact

Visit 2 &3 – second observation and or deliver a PE lesson.  This will be dependent on the school’s preference. Meeting with PE lead to discuss current PE delivery and recommendations for future lessons

3 weeks later – Follow up and feedback from school and children on the impact and progress of their lessons – visit or email.

Intended outcomes

To increase the confidence and skill of staff in regards to:

  • General sports delivery
  • Adapting sports to enable all children to take part together in a meaningful way
  • Helping schools to develop best practice so they are ready to include children with SEND from their first PE lesson at the school.
  • Ensuring children with SEND are more confident, tolerant of others and potentially better focused in the classroom
